A lifetime with animals, and eleven years learning from one in particular.
I grew up around animals — Alsatians, Rottweilers, Labradors, Papillons, horses, cats. It’s hard to find a point in my life where an animal wasn’t close by, and that’s exactly why Lorraine’s Pet Care exists: not a business built around a gap in the market, but a lifelong passion that turned into a way of caring for your pets the way I’d want my own cared for.
“My journey began with my own rescued greyhound, eleven years ago. Mine was a damaged soul — she wouldn’t go near people. We rehabilitated her, and I built a bond with her that she didn’t have with anyone else. She taught me so much.”
That patience — letting an animal set the pace, rather than the other way round — is the thread that runs through everything I do now. It’s why every new booking starts with a free meet and greet: not a formality, but a genuine chance for me to understand your pet before I take responsibility for them.
Over the last four or five years, that same instinct led me into rescuing rabbits and guinea pigs directly, alongside taking in rescued rats, gerbils and hamsters along the way. It’s given me hands-on experience with small animals as individuals, with very different needs, routines and personalities. It’s something I’m always glad to share, whether or not you end up booking me.
Today that means a working week that might include a Labrador walk in Handsacre, an overnight house-sit for a nervous terrier, a rabbit enclosure clean-out in Barton under Needwood, and letting the chickens out before breakfast — all handled with the same close attention, because to me, there’s no such thing as a low-priority pet.
